All that stuff about Oscars, movies and diva superstars. We are not so interested, we care about something else, you know.

The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced some days ago the official list of nominations for the Oscars 2012. We obviously want to know the finalists of two categories: Sound Mixing and Sound Editing. Then it’s the time to see them all together, with the help of some contents from the amazing guys at SoundWorks Collection, daddy YouTube and mummy IMDB.

Conceived in 2006, ((audience)) is an unprecedented project that explores the cinema as a 21st century concert hall. It is dedicated to the advancement of aural arts by providing wide distribution and new contexts for works by emerging and established sound artists and composers.

This year Festival is calling for 5.1 sound works to be performed in dark with a full 5.1 cinenma system during a 2 h 1/2 “sound film”. This “cinema in the dark” program will tour to partnering organization from Dehli to Montreal.

The deadline for the sumbission of the multichannel sound works is September, the 5th. Submission are encouraged either by sound artists and composers and by sound designers, foley artistis, sound engineers.

Sonic Acts XIII Amsterdam

The Poetics of Space è il titolo del tema dell’edizione 2010 di Sonic Acsts XIII, festival dedicato alle esplorazioni dello spazio nell’arte, scienza, musica e tecnologia, che si terrà as Amsterdam dal 25 al 28 febbraio.

Il programma è veramente interessante. Saranno presenti personaggi come  Brandon Labelle, Derrick de Kerckhove, Barry Truax, Michael J. Morgan.

Il costo dei biglietti non è eccessivo e Amsterdam non è così lontana…

Qualche tempo fa, un lettore ci aveva rimproverato di non aver ancora dedicato uno spazio a Diego Stocco. Detto fatto, una piccola ricerca e abbiamo scoperto il lavoro di questo sound designer di Rovigo da qualche anno residente a tempo pieno negli Stati Uniti, per l’esatezza, Los Angeles, West West West Coast…

Abbiamo anche scoperto che ben prima del trasferimento Diego collaborava come sound designer con la mitica Spectrasonics. Suoi sono i campioni che tutti noi abbiamo utilizzato in software come Atmosphere, Stylus e Omnisphere. Reduce dalla creazione della colonna sonora per The Conduit, sparatutto distribuito dalla SEGA per Nintendo Wii e al lavoro per le musiche di un film,  l’abbiamo intercettato per un’intervista su sound design e dintorni…quindi bando ai convenevoli e buona lettura!
